Community Guidelines

Expected behavior for all users in a safe, Arabic-first nickname-based chat space.

1. Purpose

Qareeb (قريب) is a safe space for nickname-based Arabic-first conversations. These Community Guidelines explain the behavior we expect from all users. Violations may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent ban.

By using Qareeb, you agree to follow these guidelines in addition to our Terms of Use.

2. Be respectful

  • Treat others with dignity and respect, even when real names are not shown.
  • Disagreement is fine; personal attacks are not.
  • Do not insult, demean, or target individuals or groups.

3. No harassment, hate, or threats

You must not:

  • Harass, stalk, or repeatedly contact someone who has asked you to stop
  • Use hate speech based on race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
  • Make credible threats of violence or encourage harm against anyone
  • Celebrate or promote violence

4. No sexual exploitation or child safety violations

  • Zero tolerance for any sexual content involving minors or anyone who appears to be under 18.
  • Do not groom, solicit, or exploit minors in any way.
  • Do not share, request, or distribute child sexual abuse material (CSAM). We report CSAM to authorities where required by law.
  • Do not share non-consensual intimate images (revenge porn).

5. No illegal content or activity

Do not use Qareeb to plan, promote, or engage in illegal activity, including but not limited to:

  • Fraud, scams, and phishing
  • Sale of illegal goods or services
  • Terrorism or violent extremism
  • Human trafficking

6. No spam, scams, or fraud

  • Do not send unsolicited promotional messages, spam, or bulk messages.
  • Do not attempt to trick users into sharing passwords, payment details, or personal information.
  • Do not impersonate Qareeb staff, Avoqia, or other users.

7. No impersonation

  • Do not pretend to be another person, organization, or public figure in a misleading way.
  • Do not use offensive or misleading nicknames intended to deceive.

8. No doxxing or private data sharing

  • Do not share another person's real name, address, phone number, email, or other private identifying information without their consent.
  • Do not share links designed to steal personal data.

9. Media and view-once messages

  • Do not send disturbing, violent, or sexually explicit content to unwilling recipients.
  • View-once media does not prevent screenshots. Recipients may capture content. Send responsibly.
  • Reported images and view-once media may be reviewed by moderation for safety.

10. How to report and block

Report: Use the in-app report feature when you see a violation. Provide the reason and any relevant details.

Block: Use the block feature to stop someone from contacting you. Blocked users cannot start new chats with you.

11. Consequences

Violations may result in:

  • Warning or educational notice
  • Temporary suspension
  • Permanent account ban
  • Referral to law enforcement where required

We review reports and take action at our discretion. Repeated or severe violations lead to faster escalation.

12. Age requirement

Qareeb is for users 18 and older only. Accounts suspected of belonging to minors will be removed.
